Bitumen is a crucial component of asphalt - the most widely used material for constructing and maintaining roads in the world. Asphalt road surfaces offer many benefits, including cost efficiency, reduction in noise pollution, improved safety and comfort, durability and recyclability. Using asphalt materials in road construction and asphalt is typically a mixture of approximately 95% aggregate particles and sand, and 5% bitumen, which acts as the binder, or glue. The viscous nature of the bitumen allows the asphalt to sustain significant flexibility, creating a very durable surface material.maintenance can improve conditions for all road users and new technologies are making asphalt the only sustainable road material of choice. A JPLG project not only builds roads to increase accessibility for communities in Somalia, but we also create short term employment for casual labourers.
